2013/14 dance year was a year of flashmobs, donations, and support. The year started with a Flashmob at the Integrated Arts Society Festival. Local dancers and teachers helped to create the dance that would surprise the guests attending the festival. An early September trip to Portland USA brought 91 pairs of ballet and tap shoes to Portland Metro Arts Studio. In November, 37 pairs of tap shoes were donated to Vancouver Tap Dance Society for their growing children’s tap programs. Dancers in Virginia USA fund-raised for their own shipment, and received brand new ballet slippers for their new dance semester. This was the first time that the recipient dancers were heavily involved in the process, a great success. And lastly, Beautiful Flamenco Shoes were donated to a program that delivers adult Flamenco lessons to lower and upper Vancouver Island. The dance year was full of great adventures, and support from local and international dancers. Thank you to everyone who supported HIH this dance season!

2012/13 dance year was a busy but exciting one! Heels In Harmony was a part of many different community events. Studios and businesses throughout the Victoria area were donating used and new dance shoes which were going to great studios and organizations. We were able to donate boxes of  ball room, tap, character, and hip hop shoes to Stellys Secondary School in Brentwood Bay. With a growing musical theatre and dance program, the students were out-growing their old dance shoes, and we were happy to re-stock their classroom. Bags of tap shoes also headed off to Vancouver Tap Dance Society which is located on East Hastings in Vancouver. This organization helps to bring world class tap instruction to students of all ages and abilities. And the end of one dance year was the beggining of another–shoes from the 12/13 dance year in Victoria are now providing shoes for the 13/14 dance year in Portland Oregon. Bins of ballet and tap shoes were donated to the Portland Metro Arts Center and their outreach programs that provide dance to youth both in school and after school programs. 2013 also was the year of the flashmobs!

The 2011/12 year brought so many great things. There were community events, dance studios collecting, dance shops donating, and an amazing flashmob to top it off! HIH received over 200 pairs of both new and used shoes, and met so many wonderful people along the way. In the summer of 2012, 45 pairs of adult tap, jazz, and ballet shoes, went to dancers at an Outreach program at Dance Base, in Edinburgh, Scotland. Another 30 pairs went to young dancers at a studio in Havana, Cuba. Both received the shoes at no cost, and HIH was fortunate enough to transport the shoes at no cost to the project! Thank you to all who donated, danced, and shared their passion of dance with another.

In 2007, Heels In Harmony sent over 100 pairs of dance shoes to Haiti. With support from local dancers and Allegro Performing Arts Centre, we were able to collect all sizes and styles of shoes for the dancers abroad. A big thank you to the Victoria Arts Council who made a donation to the project as well as the Compassionate Warehouse who made it possible for the shoes to reach the dancers.

Thank you for your support. Keep updated with HIH through the “News” page, Facebook, and Twitter.
